I used crayons on my shield once and I run my guns pretty hard at the range and it melted right off.....I haven't done any color fills since.

Solvents will not damage the anodized finish. Avoid any abrasives including Scotch Brite pads. Try brake cleaner or any strong solvent; Lacquer thinner should work.If it's just an anodized AR lower, hit that sucker with some Supertech brake cleaner from Walmart.
I use it on my AR's all the time. It won't hurt it at all.
I've used brake cleaner or even carb cleaner as bore cleaner before. But never to scrub the outside finish.bxtreme24 so you don't think I'm just messing with you, here's a pic I took while cleaning my AR awhile back.
I've used brake cleaner on my AR's and Glocks for 15 years and have never had a problem.
