That is dead sexy.

I actually thought about seeing if anyone had a set of regular rifle length handguards they wanted to get rid of. I know I have given my fair share of them away in the past cause I changed out this or that.

I never said anything about button rifled. The SUM is broach cut which is thought to be better than button rifling. Do you own one of those Colts? They are pretty damn sweet.

Yes I own one & I love it. Changed out the stock to a magpul prs to get ride of the stock play. I am thinking about putting a short picatinny rail up front to put a bipod on. I just hate to drill holes in the factory handguard. Colt CRE-18 002.JPG

Sweet. If we weren't so far apart I would say lets meet up and see which will shoot the tighter group. Of course, mine is 30 years older than yours and handicapped by the sight technology of it's day. ;)

30 yrs older means it was probably built a lot better & with the best materials & knowledge of the day. Cost to make was not the # 1 corporate concern back then. It was all about quality. Corporate America of today has for the most part put Quality behind Profit. I'll take you up on the shoot off . One day when my wife & I are heading out on a trip with no destination ( which is what we usually do). Maybe we can come thru Rome & hook up for some range time. Would love to see the Old Girl in action.
