Daily Dinner thread?

Low country boil for 2 last night. Jalapeno cheese sausage, baby red potatoes, very mediocre bicolor corn ( I took 3 bites and decided it would be taking up stomach space better left for shrimp) and fresh Ga shrimp. Shrimp season opened in Ga yesterday and now the boats can drag their nets in state waters ( 3 miles and closer). There will be a ton of big shrimp on the market the next few weeks and I plan to take advantage even though my freezer is full of shrimp.

If that's the case, I bet my ole lady will be on that

Do you have a specific place you go to buy or just any marina on the coast?

There are lots of places to buy from. I prefer a place in Eulonia called Shell Creek. They have their own boat and also buy from other boats. Their shrimp are headed and sized. They have very good prices. Especially when you buy in bulk. Really good price breaks start at 25 lbs. There's others that sell shrimp that aren't headed or sorted. The price is cheaper but you're paying for the head. We figured that the head is around 40% of the weight so I always factor that when buying. Usually the head on shrimp turn out to be a little more expensive. And if you're buying bulk, heading 25+ pounds of shrimp really sucks. Right now it's white shrimp running. They'll peter out in July and guys will start getting brown shrimp. The browns are smaller and not as good in my opinion. You can get them cheap. Head on browns for $2.50 a lb. I usually buy a bunch and freeze them for bait.

That is really good info! Thanks for taking the time to post that! I have wondered if there was an advantage price-wise for head-on vs headed. I may make another trip to the coast and this will help me out, thank you very much for that!

Put this together this evening, pretty darn good too. Marinated Ribeye and a Killer Salad with lettuce, cheese, beets, pickled okra, onions, jalapeño and garlic stuffed olives, grape tomatoes, peppers.
