I'd say get the rifle completed and sell it if you don't want to keep it. You'll be out a couple thousand dollars and will have learned a lesson. I have no idea what 'bedding' a rifle means. Can you post a pic of the rifle?

At the very least it was a complex agreement with a lot of variables and moving parts.
