Did I make the right choice with shotgun? pick up in one hour

my church has a skeet shoot every year in Sept. I did not have a gun to use this year, I only have a single shot 12 ga, and the only way I can get another is to put it on layaway at the pawn shop, the only two I could afford was a old mossburg 500 in bad shape with lots of rust or a maverick 88 in good shape, I got the maverick 88 and put it on layaway. Did I make the right choice?

I think you did just fine. The 88 will work great. I put stuff on layaway all the time.

Sure, no problem with the 88 as long as it has interchangeable choke tubes.

Nuttin wrong with a Mav 88...You can put the Mossberg 500 parts on it anyway...safety is a little bit different, about it.

LOL! Good luck with the four sets of doubles in a round of skeet. You must be VERY good.

I have had two mavericks. Never an issue with either.

Only difference in a mossberg 500 and a maverick 88 is the trigger.

What barrel does it have? And Can I ask how much it was?

Used in good shape? You did good.

They are only about $159-169 new For that particular one.


The two best things I did to mine was some truglo sights and an ATI adjustable stock.
Just to give you some ideas. The sights were $30 and the stock was $70. If you ever consider an ATI stock, make sure you go ahead and get the drop spacer with it. I bought the stock and put it on and the sight picture was all out of whack. Ordered the drop spacer and all was good again.
