Does anyone here not carry a gun everyday? Has anyone carried and quit?

Great thread/topic. I've personally never felt compelled to disarm if I had a choice but I can understand not wanting the hassle. All the gear we typically keep on or around us and the mental lists that go with that is a lot. Not to mention the potential legal/monetary ramifications for just being involved in a situation whether your actions were justified or not.

OP made an interesting statement about only carrying with his family. I think most of us could never forgive ourselves if we could have stopped crime against a loved one if we'd just made the effort to "be prepared" that particular day. When it's just "us" though it can change your mentality. It's a lot easier to just GTFO of a situation when it's just you.

Funny, I'm kind of the opposite. I used to be really intermittent on when I carried, mainly because it was such a PITA to be constantly taking it on and off for work (no carry there).

Since I was basically going from my house (guns there) to my truck (gun there) to the parking garage and work. I started just keeping one of those Kimber pepper sprayers for the walk from the truck to the building. That was OK by company policy and would probably have been fine in any kind of mugging situation.

Then I got my P365 and started working from home, and now I carry every single day when I'm outside the house. In fact a lot of times I'm too lazy to take it off even inside the house. Also, switching to an OWB holster made things a lot more comfortable. That's really all I use these days.

If I have to go into the datacenter at work I still stick with the pepper spray for that last part, but that's the only time I don't have a gun on me these days.

I have carried a gun almost every day for 20+ years. I have never worked a job where carry was allowed but smart carry, pocket carry and AIWB work miracles. Recently I just quit and I cant explain it. I was sitting at work one day and it was hot with a Glock 19, pocket knife, hand sanitizer, flash light, wallet, etc and just walked to my truck and unloaded it all. I kept my wallet and pocket knife. It seemed like everything was suddenly heavy and the touch seemed to irritate me. Since then I am only carrying a gun when I am with my family. If Im robbed I am robbed of a few hundred bucks. If I am killed over my wallet Im dead. My family could survive without me. Maybe I've gotten lazy, maybe I've given up, Im not sure. It just doesn't seem to be worth it. Is there anyone else who even though we are in crazy times we have always been and just doesn't see the need to carry a gun all the time? I guess its sort of like church I go because I feel my family needs to be there but unsure if I do. Its almost like carrying a gun and going to church was just checking something off the list.

I absolutely sympathize with you. I worked 34 years where daily carry was required (both open and concealed). In my personal life, however, I traveled extensively in Taiwan, Korea and Japan. All extremely safe countries. I can't tell you how relaxing it was not to carry or to plan your wardrobe around a ccw. But once I returned back to the good old US of A it was back to carry.

But here's another vote for the p365! The little Kahrs are nice too!

As much as I love the Shield Plus, I switched back to the Shield 1.0 for the slightly lighter weight & slightly easier concealment with EDC.

The ounces = pounds concept checks out.

Might want to consider a single stack to find that 24/7 comfort level again.

The 1st victim at the greenwood mall was carrying as he was walking into the restroom. I don’t think even Jerry Miculek would have had a chance. Evil cannot be dead enough especially if over a bag of chips, too much mayonnaise, or just stopping to put air in your tires while visiting where you grew up.

The question Camsdaddy presented was choosing not to carry where it would be legal to carry. The thread's not about following the law versus breaking the law.
That is not the way I read it at all. He said he had been carrying for 20+ years on the job but had nver worked a job where carrying was allowed but he did so anyway and just decided to quit.

I have never worked where it was allowed but its never been illegal. I've never carried where it was illegal. I have carried everything from a P32 to a Glock 34 and everything in between short of a hellcat. A lot of that time was with a J frame AIWB or in my pocket. I think this is a mindset issue. When its just me its just me. All I can lose a little money and me. When my family is in tow there is more on the line and they are worth it. Of course they all go through their lives when Im not around unarmed.

Ive been there, but I went back to carrying my pocketed Lcp pretty quick. Its easy to pick up and drop in my pocket.
