Does it ever stop?

Yes it gets much easier after a time. I smoked for 15 years and have been quit for close to 7 or 8.

Best advice i had for quitting was quit for at least 2 or 3 weeks, long enough to get most of the nicotine out of your system.

Then go have some drinks and get a good buzz, now burn down 2 cigarettes quickly like you used to. The resulting spins and vomit should help to start giving you a reason to not pick one back up. Not kidding i've done this to multiple people quitting and it worked every time.

Once you stop for long enough cigarettes will start to hit you like your 14 again and once you hit that point its MUCH easier.
