EV's are NOT America's future!

"83 MILLION GALLONS" of oil
The Gulf of America has 2.4 million cubic kilometers of water. This is equivalent to 6.43 * 10^17 gallons or 580,000 cubic miles
come on man....the oil eating bacteria simply got a desert...that's about it

That's true. Fossil fuels probably wouldn't survive without the $1.5 TRILLION in subsidies they got in 2022.

Fossil fuel subsidies

How you gonna charge them batteries, homie?

Unicorn farts?

Edit: More seriously, you're making the same fundamentally dishonest argument that gets wheeled out every time the conversation turns to subsidies. Whether we like subsidies or not, the absolute magnitude of subsidies isn't really the point. It's the benefit per capita that the subsidies fund.

In the case of EVs, the subsidies benefit a fraction of the US population, for a corner of the economy.

In the case of fossil fuels (actually, petrochemicals) the subsidies are for a raw material that every single living American benefits from, because petrochemicals are the base material for not just vehicle fuel, but pharmaceuticals, polymers, living in a modern world with household appliances and computers, as well as meeting strategic and military defense needs. Oh, and also the EV industry.

Even with 100% adoption of EVs, the US would consume pretty much the same amount of fossil fuels, and the justification for those subsidies that are paid would remain the same, because EV technology is based on BATTERIES - storage mechanisms for energy - they're not a GENERATOR or electricity. If you can't charge those batteries, what use are they?

Power generation - unfortunately - is an industry that the US population cannot live without - and frankly, if we increased our commitment to non-fossil fuels, a different set of subsidies would be introduced. Unlike EVs though, a compelling argument can be made to support subsidies, even if we would rather there wasn't.

But again, I'm sure you actually know that.

Again, I'm sure the 82,000 marine animals that died (low estimate) don't feel like it's such a small thing.

Do you toss your trash out the window and then say "Yeah, but that coke can is so small compared to the surface of the Earth - who cares?"

Or maybe it's OK to punch some random stranger, and then say "But there's 8 billion people on the Earth, so that's a really small sample."

My personal favorite would be nuclear. I like the high temperature, low pressure thorium reactors or even some of the molten salt designs since they're safer than water moderated. Certainly not graphite moderated, like Chernobyl.

One gentleman on here did make the point that an EV can be "fueled" from many different energy sources, but a gasoline powered car can only be fueled by one.

But I am not opposed to oil and gas. I AM opposed to people claiming that EV's get all the subsidies without looking into fossil fuel subsidies as well.

I say end all subsidies and let the market decide.

So. Let’s do the Math…1.5 trillion divided by 1.5 billion cars on the Road.. That works out to be 1k per car..

Then deduct all the Fuel Oil, Coal, refineries, Diesel, jet Fuel, Lp and natural gas that keep the economy rolling and TELL me how your battery powered will move industry…

Just STFU ALLREADY

So you're saying we should take taxpayer money from everyone and give it to the companies we like because 'it makes the economy work'? Sounds suspiciously like socialism to me.

I'm not saying EV's will "move industry". I'm only pointing out the hypocrisy when people complain about EV subsidies, but love the subsidies on their favorite industry.

And, based off of the last reply, I'm over the target.

Well figure out how to charge your ****ing batteries without fossil fuels… I will wait….
