Yup, and I always take a flathead with me so I can pry them from between cracks in the pavement.

I think most people who cast, especially on a larger scale, don't find it worth their time to get lead this way. The other day I spent about 2.5 hours walking a 1 mile stretch down one side and back the other on a busy exit off 85 in 90 degree heat and found about 8 pounds.

If you have any friends that work at marinas, ask them about scraped sails boats. The keels are packed full of lead. Also your dentist, the xray films contain lead, He prolly has jugs full.

Not that I would want to turn down that much lead from a keel, but I'd have no way of hauling it off or cutting it up lol.

Getting to know a plumber is a great way to source lead.
I probably have 10 shower pans laying outside right now.
