Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe the extra flutes may add more straight angles that should add stiffness with everything else being equal.
On a 22lr I also believe it's a moot point! Little to no whip, etc... I have a lightweight round barrel CZ that'll shoot with my most expensive bull barrel target 22's when I do my part.
Realistically, yea it's likely cosmetics on a target 22lr?
