Hey all you AK lovers, What distinguishes the preban polytechs from any other true AK47?
ie markings, numbers etc etc

Don’t get too technical, you’ll lose me!🤪

Thanks!
I got shot at enough with them, I should know more! Lol!!

can't really help much with that. I do have a polytech kengs import but have never shot it.
I was under the impression the poytech was completely made in house as opposed to 'parts' guns. Im sure some of the AK peeps will chime in.

There’s a massive list of differences that can’t be explained without going into minutiae, but basics from super high level is all Chinese import guns were new manufacture not ex military parts kits with new receivers the list goes on from there but gets very small scale on almost every aspect of the design

1.5 mm receivers-Genuine military product-Chrome lined barrels-quality manufacturing process.
Just better and more accurate all the way around.

I've owned close to 10 of them now. I've also owned a few Arsenals with their spray paint finish. Just don't compare in quality.

You asking about the milled receivers or the stamped receivers? Either way, the fit and finish on the Polytechs were better than the run of the mill Norincos.

Chinese stamped AK's are made out of thicker metal on the receivers. The wooden stocks are smaller on the end that goes into the rear of the receiver because of this. The barrel profiles are also thicker. The factory Chinese triggers are probably the best/smoothest made.

On a stamped Chinese AK, the front trunion rivets will be in staggered postion. One high, one low. All other stamped AK's have the front trunion rivets in a straight line.

When you shoot one it’s better than Viagra . I’ve fired 2000+ rounds thru it without a single jam. I’d marry it

They are slick everywhere. They fall apart during disassembly and reassemble without struggle. Extreme hand fitting.

Remind me guys, are there stamped=receiver Poly's ? (crap) getting old sucks :frown:

Bought my very 1st AK back in 1989 or maybe was 1990, a Clayco UF.. and I still have it :thumb:

(can you guys tell that I'm a hoarder ?)

The regular type-56s Polys/Norincos were stamped. (AKMs).

The Legend series as shown on that old paper ad above were milled. Personally I would take a stamped AKM over a milled AK, mainly due to weight. One of my favorite machineguns that I own is a 1983 Norinco Type 56S (Factory 66), converted and registered as a machinegun by LaFrance in 1984. It is very light, but packs some serious firepower. Incredibly reliable. I've done mag dumps after mag dumps. Running it mostly full auto for the past 15years and it has not had ONE FTF in the thousands of rounds I've put through it. If the apocalypses came tomorrow, and I was forced to wander the wasteland indefinitely, I would strongly consider a Polytech/Norinco Type-56s AKM to take with me.
