Why do you make checks payable to Dept of justice for a sbr ,but for a can you make it to BATF ?

Same people process your forms. Just make it out to "BATFE" no matter what form you're filing.

They don't actually deposit the check, they take your account and routing to do a ACH electronic charge.

Just like on a Form 1 it say make check payable to Dept of Justice, and the directions for filling out the Form 1 say make check payable to BATFE. So who knows? I made mine out to Dept. Of Justice.

BATFE is a subset of the Dept of Justice.

I'm pretty sure you could write pay to the order of Jack Booted Cat Stompers and it would still get cashed.
