Gun Stores to stay away from

Speaking as someone who is fairly new to this I would suggest that the regulars here could recommend not just a store but who to speak with there. I have been to Stoddard's and to AO and had equally good/bad experiences at both. In both cases they are in new stores with I would assume some new people. I got great help at both....from the right people.

Cherokee Gun in Canton is the most amazing store ever. Good prices, excellent staff, selection, and sometimes they'll even stop and listen to those silly little stories we always tell when we're looking at guns.

Eflat, I might have to give Stoddards another go. Its been almost a year since I went there because they really pissed me off. I couldnt wait until they opened because they are only 10 minutes from the house. I might have to go back.

Yeah I stopped in Cherokee last Monday and the selection was pretty good. Just didn't have a lot of shotguns. But if you are looking for anything else it is worth the drive.

Not a good selection? Average prices? If Jerry doesn't have it he or Lisa will order it, show you exactly their cost and give you a very fair deal, even a cash discount. Too each his own but I think you are clearly one of the very very few people who think this way about Sporting Arms.

Yeah when they first opened there was some definite bugs they had to work out. I still frequented some of the other ranges for the first several months they were open. Once they settled in I have only been to another range just a few times. Once you go a few times you realize that the guys there are actually pretty cool and if you see someone being dangerous on the range and they don't, just tell them and they will take care of it.

I have had very good experiences with Gable's Sporting Goods in Douglasville. They don't have a huge selection but are knowledgeable and friendly and will order just about anything you want. I've shopped Stoddards, both when they were on Fairburn Road and now in their new shop with very nice ranges. They guys there are friendly to me, answer all my questions and I've bought a few guns there.
I have had nothing but good experiences at Adventure Outdoors, old and new store. I was in two weeks ago and I knew what I wanted when I came in. They ended up showing me some nice stuff that had just come in on trade and I got some good prices. Worse part is the slow checkout but it's thorough and they are friendly. I usually do my research before I go in so I know what questions I want to ask and I am in and out fairly quickly. Last week I went in for a bushmaster, found a guy anxious to wait on me, showed me what I wanted to see, I filled out the paperwork and had my rifle in about 15 minutes from the time of putting pen to paper to checking out. One thing they don't seem fond of is letting people handle a lot of guns and shopping. They can only give you one at a time and they can't leave while you are looking at what you are looking at so that ties them up from people who want to buy. So, best way to get good service is to know what you want when you walk in the door and don't plan on handling everything behind the counters.
I've had mediocre service at Wild West Traders. They don't have a great selection, are somewhat disorganized when it comes to finding boxes for the guns, are quick to wait on you and then quick to leave you standing while they wait on someone else. I also usually run in to people that I'd really rather not shop for guns or flash cash around but that's probably just me. I'm old, retired, look like the Master Sergeant I have spent my life being, with 23 years of military experience and I'm not really tolerant of other people or folks that crowd my AO. Back off and we are fine.

Ed's Public Safety in Stockbridge is a great store. Great selection, they aren't rude but do not go out of their way to be ass kissers either. They leave you alone until you have a question.

And they never raised their prices in Nov '08 and had TONS of stock. If I still lived down there I would be there weekly.

And the best Glock prices I've ever seen.

Heck I've got a computer, I can order things. I didn't drive all the way to freaking winterville for him to get pissed that I asked for the item then tell me "it can be ordered". And the cash discount is pretty much just rounding the price.
