I always get choked up by these threads.

A couple of years ago we were eating at a restaurant downtown and our little poodle mix was laying on the sidewalk looking at an older couple at the next table. The man would look at her then look away, several times. I asked him if he wanted to say hello to "Trixie" and he said "No, she looks just like my girl I lost last year to old age." I urged him to pet her "hello" and in no time he was holding her in his lap, tears streaming down his face.
Hell I started getting choked up too. How in the world do they do get in our hearts like they do?

I hope that couple took in another little one before waiting too long. I waited 28 years between dogs and I consider those years wasted.

That’s the hardest thing about raising dogs…. It hurt like it was one of our children…
