Kinda like verifying an artillery shell is a dud by smashing the detonation fuse with a hammer right?
I always have to relate the experience I had when this sort of thing comes up.
Was shooting at a friend's house out in the county. Semi-autos only but we were trying to be fast with it and sometimes multiple shooters at a time.
Cops show up. "Neighbors said they heard machine gun fire"
My friend answers the exact way he should have, "So what? Are they under the impression that's illegal?"
They tried being a-holes about it but eventually left.
Many years ago, my Mother was in early 80's and lived alone. There was a noise at back bedroom door one night that scared her. Got out her trusty midnight special, pulled the hammer back, and sat alert. Nothing ever happened and she put the gun back in its place and went to sleep. The next morning, she wanted to do the smart thing and go outside to let the hammer back down. As she was walking through the kitchen,,,, she somehow shot the refrigerator. Back then friges were all white so she filled the hole up with caulk in the hope that I would not notice. Actually took a while before I did. After a lot of soul searching, I let her keep the 38 for a couple more years until she finally agreed to move in with me. 30 years later my Daughter still has the fridge back in the shop and we will never let it go as long as it still keeps beer cold and can survive a gun shot wound.

I had my Remington 700 270 go off when I pushed the safety off in my shooting building. I know there was a recall years ago. This is the first time I've had this too happen and I can't find a way to notify Remington. If you know how I can contact them to see if they will fix the problem, please advise.
Yep. I was 16 just killed my first deer with a bolt action 1903A3. I racked another round but the deer was dead, so I did not need it. When it was time to get down out of the tree stand, I tied the rope in the trigger guard when I cinched the knot the gun went off in laying in my lap.
