Hogs and the .45 ACP

Short answer: YES

A 45 will kill a hog

FYI. Having done some extensive testing and having reviewed the literature :

A .45 ACP does NOT gain much velocity from a longer barrel.

Maybe if you handloaded with different powder you’d see a significant increase in FPS.

But factory ammo in 45 ACP doesn’t really get better from a Carbine as opposed to a 5” barrel.

YMMV.
 
A well placed shot will easily do the job but that’ll be difficult with a handgun at 20-30 yards so it may run a ways and die out of sight.

Are you trying to retrieve the pig after?

If it's right there, and not too big. I'm not tracking one very far and I'm not dragging a big one out of the woods. Might cut out the loins and hams. I can't tote very much.

Velocity may not increase, but accuracy should.
I can get 50 yard accuracy with a carbine comparable to 20 yards with a pistol.
