Hunting rifle set ups

For a long time the Model 7 was considered a youth rifle. I consider it more of a lightweight pack rifle. I have heard the recoil is pretty brisk in the 7 in the available calibers.

I bought a Youth 7 for my (at the time) 10yo son
Yes it kicks in 7-08, and loud
I ended up loading Reduced Recoil loads before they became available on the shelf
but
I used Nosler Ballistic tips 120 gr.
and they did not expand
the entrance & exit hole look like the Deer was shot with a field point arrow
my load did not generated adequate downrange killing power
I ended up removing the tip from the bullets and with the exposed hollow point it did a better job

any way - he did kill Deer with it

Picked this one up recently. It's a Ruger 77 RSI in 6.5x55.

Double Tap has a 120gr Barnes TTSX in 7/08 if you are looking for a new load for 2020.

Picked up another rifle...Just because...Its a plain Jane, New Haven, CT. Model 70, and of course, it is .270...The greatest caliber in all the world.

Found a good deal for a Vortex Crossfire 3-9x40 and got it mounted today.

Right now with gun stores and pawn shops being cleaned out of the tactical crap, there are some good deals to be had for bolt guns.

I'll take it out back tomorrow and see what she do.

Can't wait for hunting season!
