Alive well before the internet. Completely besides the point though. The entire world's supply chains are run through the internet for just in time service. You think your local mom and pop shop are going to get any orders filled for you to pay in cash? World doesn't magically just go back to pre internet operations. Let's just go back to before automobiles while we're at it. Should solve the obesity epidemic.

I'm quite aware of the dependence of commerce on the internet. That doesn't mean any business with any sense doesn't have contingency plans. Would it be a disruption? Of course, major. But the world would not stop and people would not be dropping dead in the streets.

Society adapts, it always has. It would have a major impact on commerce, retail, finance and delivery but the more dependent on the internet you are the greater the impact it would have on your life particularly if you live in urban metro/suburban areas.
