Is 9mm range ammo now $.40 a round?

35lb of ammo is let's just say $800. 35lb of silver is over $9,200. If your net worth is less than $1,000 then by all means, ammo over silver. If you have more wealth than that then you could carry half a troy ounce of gold in your pocket and that would be worth more than your 35lbs of ammo.

The other option is to have both ammo and gold/silver.
You missed my point completely. All the gold in the world won't save you if you need one more round of 5.56mm ammo

If you don't have any wealth to leave behind then just take ammo. If you do have wealth you don't want to leave behind then having it in the form of gold makes it portable enough to take with you. It's small and light enough that it's not being taken instead of ammo.

If you’re worrying about wealth when someone’s trying to kill you, I’m going to suggest re-prioritizing.

Gold and silver, along with paper money, in an apocalyptic society will all be equally worthless. If what you have cannot be eaten, drank, used as fuel, used as meds, or used in offense or defense, it's worthless. Be a hell of a wake up call if 1 ounce of gold won't trade for a gallon of water.

I think we have to assume a sliding scale with utopia on one end and a post apocalyptic existence on the other. Say from 1-10. 1being utopia, 10 PA. Although gold and or silver would likely be useless at 1-2 and 9-10, it will have some degree of value And perhaps a great degree of relative value from 3-8, In all likelihood most of us will never see anything other than 3-8. If your assumption is that we have An absolute appointment with doomsday, by all means you should put all your eggs in the beans, bullets and bandages basket. My thought is we may see a 7. If the world does hit a 9-10 I’ll likely be dead as will most others, you can have our stuff. At that point it will be about savagery, skills, a very odd type of leadership ability and luck. And yes, until someone bigger, badder, luckier or smart enough to hide in the bushes and pop the last round of 30-06 out of grandpas Ted Williams rifle into your brain pan and take your stuff, being stocked up will be important.

Gold and silver have had value since before Jesus. A lot of things have happened since then that were bad. Things like the plague, the dark ages, and 2 world wars. Nobody was ever throwing precious metals away. Paper money yes it can be garbage, precious metals not in the last 2500 years. You are expecting us to go from civilized to mud huts in the next 25 years ? If you have Nostradamus predictions for the future. If so share them.
