Is the Ar10 worth it?

I owned a super sass by armalite. I really liked it but it was a bit on the heavy side 14 pounds or thereabouts.

AR10 as in Armalite? Absolutely not. AR10 as in a 308 AR pattern rifle such as the DPMS, Bushmaster, PSA, S&W, etc, etc. Absolutely!

R25? Yeah I have one.
It's a great range toy and lots of fun. With a good load very accurate. Recoil is quite manageable. Looks are cool factor 10
Expensive to shoot, but it depends on how trigger happy you get. I have 5 mags and have used 2 and that's just because I had one of the spares already loaded.
Heavy? Not compared to the truck you drove to the range in. (If it's a full size)
Bulky? Not if 12' between the top of the scope turret and the bottom of the mag or pistol grip will fit out your shoot house window without snagging on your cooler handle, backpack straps, jacket, bib suspenders, or lunch bag. Add a bipod and multiply weight and bulk x4 due to leverage on the front and several more protrusions.
At 48" long snagging every low limb and vine in the woods is not a problem as long as you clear a path with an excavator or track loader (at least a 329 or 963 Cat is recommended but you may need a bigger machine if it has a quad rail and other gadgets.)
Ergonomics suck for hunting? Well since it wont fit out most shoot house windows usefulness is limited, but if you have large windows and it does you cant get it pointed in the right direction without making the noise of a heard of teenagers on the schoolhouse stairs on Friday afternoon. Laying prone on the edge of a field behind a rifle for extended periods leads to wicked neck problems/fatigue as well as ticks chiggers ants and every other insect known to man feasting on your carcass and laying the thing across your lap while sitting puts your legs into a deep sleep that wont go away for a few days.
Yeah no thanks, my bolt action rifles work just fine for hunting.

Range toy with a cool factor 10? Oh Yeah!
Useful for anything else? doubtful

Oh yeah and DPMS factory triggers suck plan on replacing that first thing.

If you want a full powered battle rifle in 30 caliber, some variant of the AR10 type is a great choice. Reliable and typically as accurate or more so than any other option. MUCH more accurate than many other options.
