Also how many people have you heard say "I'm gonna buy a bike cause it's cheaper than driving......." always searching for that free
I think I heard it on TV once.

How many times have you heard: Im going to buy a Gas Guzzler because F saving money on Gas.

People that want to save money must be crazy! It grows on trees!

I am for less taxation, that said we do need to pay for the services we use. Roadways fall into that area. Autmobiles and trucks pay a motor fuels tax for every gallon of fuel they purchase. Bicycles obviously do not. Automobile drivers are taxed more than twice, motor fuels,insurance,Tag/advolorem tax.
Perhaps they should require titles for bicycles and insurance too?

Bike Lanes:
I was on a committee here locally and lobbied AGAINST bike lanes...primarily because they do cyclist NO good if they are not swept or maintained. Currently, our bikes lanes are littered with Gravel, glass, trash, and dead animals...so I ride in the roadway for my own "safety" and suffer the wrath of the denim clad morons trying to turn me gay by calling me names...

That's why I loved my Surly Steamroller. :)

"You don't pay taxes you should be on the road"
Contrary to what seems to be popular belief, we do. I own 3 vehicles, 2 trailers, and own my own business. I pay a SH!7 Load of taxes...this argument does not deserve any more effort....just ignorance.

Don't be silly, people who ride bikes don't pay taxes and own cars. That's like saying people that bow hunt also own guns. Preposterous, you only get to choose one.

The problem is the taxes DO NOT GO to support these items. Tax dollars are spent at the whim of those in power, given to their crony friends, and just generally wasted.

Can anyone say GA 400 toll??? Look at how those tax dollars, although against state law, were used to fund other items. Politicians abuse the system, and we let them get away with it.

How anyone can be in favor of yet one more tax is beyond me. This country is truly screwed...

In some ways I agree, but you have to udnerstand that I don't pay taxes on 400 because I don't use 400. So, it isn't an imposed tax, it is optional. Same applies to the HOT lanes on 85. I also don't know that all of the taxes collected don't go to what they are allotted for, so I can't say that I agree with the "taxes DO NOT GO to support these items" statement.

If you have a vehicle that isn't driving you shouldn't have to pay a tax on it. I don't believe the same is true about a home. /shrug

Even if there were bike lanes, you wouldn't use them. I've seen it before all over Gwinnett county. You've even had a bike rider earlier say he doesn't use them.

^^^^^ perfect example of failing to see reason.....I said I didn't always use them and WHY....it was a very good reason....one I personally struggle with...but when you are actually RIDING a BIKE IN A BIKE LANE FULL OF GARBAGE....there is a lot of garbage you CANNOT SEE FROM YOUR CAR....it provides a vastly different perspective....and EXPERIENCE.....one that you can only FULLY understand if you COME OFF YOUR SOAP box and try it....

you guys should dust off the old huffy and take a stroll down your local bike line....if its clean! thank your local DOT....in our neck of the woods I could build a damn dog house with all the miscellanous garbage I find in a bike line in a 2 mile stretch...

I got some extra Spandex and Tutus for you guys if you need 'em....you'd better thicken up the skin too....it's a little different out there on the REAL road versue the virtual one.

400 is an example of a long line of the abuse of our tax dollars. If my money is guaranteed to support improvements for cyclists, then I will pay it. But since that will never happen, I am not supporting yet another tax. I mean really how much is enough??? Pretty soon we will be taxed for breathing the air...

but even the Steam roller will CUT a tire or get a puncture from all the crap in the lane...

"You don't pay taxes!!" the one statement that makes me want to punch someone in the kisser!
