If you don't have the proper gauges... an M2 ball round will give you/us an idea on the muzzle wear... If it swallows the whole bullet...chances are the barrel is junk...

ahh I see, I gave the barrel a good cleaning and it looks pretty good, very little pitting. I did notice some green color coming off the clothes after I used solvent.. Beginning stages of rust if I'm not mistaken.

Copper fouling from the bullets jacket causes that...

No, that is copper fouling from bullet jackets.

Thanks J jeep78 ... that photo he supplied is a perfect example of using an M2 ball or FMJ round to get an idea of muzzle wear/damage... the top barrel in the pic is in bad shape...needs Throat erosion gauge to confirm that barrel is probably toast and the M1 needs a new barrel...

I've seen worse... So now other components need looked at... sights would be first... then a list starts from there...

The stock shims shown earlier can be made out of an old credit card. The trigger guard has pivots that wear and cause looseness as well. Replacing the trigger guard with one that has round pivots instead of egg shaped or flattened ones helps tighten the stock.
