Richt is a nice guy, but I don't know why UGA and Coach Richt are being discussed in a thread about Bear Bryant. You surely don't mean to suggest that Richt is on the same level as Bryant in the coaching elite of college football.

My whole family is UGA, all I ever hear is Herschel this and Herschel that. Remember that time in the 80's when we were relevant to college football........broken record.

But couldn't the same have been said about Bama prior to Saban coming there. Let's just be honest about it and say it didn't matter where he went to coach he was going to be successful. Thats the mark of a great coach right there and Saban is one. So was Bear.

Most of us live in Georgia. Alabama shouldn't be discussed amongst us at all.

So your saying ODT members originally from Alabama don't have right to discuss their college team?

Within reason, I would agree. I think Saban would have had to land at Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, South Carolina, Clemson, or back at LSU. I don't think you could have put him at Vandy, Kentucky, or similiar and expected the same results. He needed a tradition rich environment with alumni money for facilities to be successful at the level that would have kept him there.

I live on the Georgia/Alabama line, would be real close as to which school is actually closer to my house.

Obviously none of them were English. :p

As far as dope tests, you're pretty much wrong about that. UGA has a pretty strict policy on any stupid activity that athletes may do. Hell, our starting kicker was out the first game of this season and so was a DB. And that's not the first time Richt has come down on players. Do the names Mettenberger or Crowell ring a bell? There are other examples as well.

Florida State was on probation due to having ineligible players during the 2006/2007 season. Richt was long gone by then....so once again, you're wrong.

Now show me where it was proven that a UGA player did something wrong and Richt allowed them to play anyways. Don't worry, I'll wait.......

Did you bother to see who recruited those kids and set the wheels in motion for that FSU machine? Also, I use a iPhone, sometimes my mind thinks faster than my fingers. Sorry for missing an "o" in our extensive conversation. But to answer your question, my specialist degree was in English Composition from UGA so that I could teach secondary education after the company I worked for went out of business after 11 years with them.

Needless to say Bryant is one of my all time favorite coaches. Here is a phone of Bryant with one of my favorite sportscasters Keith Jackson. The photo was taken at the 1981 Iron Bowl when the Tide beat Auburn 28-17. I miss watching a good college football game with Keith Jackson doing the play by play.

Here are just some of the honors and accomplishments for Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant.

  • In his 38 seasons as a head coach, Bryant had 37 winning seasons and participated in a total of 29 postseason bowl games, including 24 consecutively at Alabama. He won 15 bowl games, including eight Sugar Bowls
  • 12-time Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year
  • Three-time National Coach of the Year in 1961, 1971 and 1973. The national coach of the year award was subsequently named the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award in his honor.
  • Was named Head Coach of Sports Illustrated's NCAA Football All-Century Team
  • In February 1983, Bryant was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Ronald Reagan.
  • Bryant was honored with a U.S. postage stamp in 1996.
  • Super Bowl XVII was dedicated to Bryant. A moment of silence was held in his memory during the pregame ceremonies. Some of his former Alabama players were on the rosters of both teams, including Miami Dolphins nose tackle Bob Baumhower and running back Tony Nathan. Also, at the end of Leslie Easterbrook's performance of the National Anthem, several planes from Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama did the traditional missing-man formation over the Rose Bowl in his memory.

A moment of prayer with his team.

When you show me a better one than what we have had or currently have, then I will entertain your little rant, until then, I will stand by my previous post. I was a helluva a great pee wee football coach, went undefeated with my son's team for four years and several county championships, however, like a few of your previous suggestions, I didn't coach division 1 and win multiple national championships so I hereby retract myself from any future discussion of the greatest coaches of all time.
^^^LOL! My thoughts exactly! Bear only had 323 wins because they only played ten games back then. What if they played the 14, 15 games per year? How many victories would he have totaled up??!?
