Martin Family Attorney at it again

That said its a tough situation for the runner. If he suddenly stops he's hit, so at some point he's just running not to get run over.[/QUOTE]

^^^^^this^^^^^ great observation here...

So police shouldn't be allowed to chase a runner while in a vehicle?

Chase, yes. Run over, no.

Where's the part of the story that says why the suspect ran? Because I'll bet you right now that the seatbelt was the probable cause for a stop on suspicion of something much worse. And the fact that dude ditched and ran tells me whatever it was he was probably guilty of it.

And if you're not smart enough to turn 90º to the right to out maneuver a car in the grass and not agile enough to run without falling sucks to be you I guess. Maybe you shouldn't run from the cops then.

Totally. He probably had something else incriminating in the car. Key word being PROBABLY. Last time I checked, in the United States of America, we don't execute people for possibly committing a crime. We have this neat little thing called "due process," based on this silly notion that people are "innocent until proven guilty."

I'm certainly not saying the dude was innocent and, In fact, I'm inclined to believe he's not. Regardless, he was an American citizen with rights. So while you see some thug meeting his swift end, I see an American who's life was taken from him without trial by a reckless officer.

I'm sure most of you are familiar with the castle doctrine here in GA. You can't kill someone who is running away, and neither can the police. A seatbelt violation and some possible contraband don't justify the taking of a human life. Stop being so cold.

IMO---If you do something stupid, like run from the cops, there will always be a consequence, in this case he got ran over by a patrol car. Sad situation for all parties involved.

I'm not cold, I'm a realist. The suspect made 4 mistakes. 1. Didn't stop. 2. Whatever he did that made him run. 3. Bailed out. 4. Was an uncoordinated SOB. The officer made one, following to close. So who caused this? 80/20 split in my opinion. The suspect had multiple opportunities to end the pursuit, sad ending for all involved but you can't blame the officer.

I didn't say that, but you just don't run people over with cars. Get your fat, donut eatin ass out of the car and do your job. WTF is wrong with people thinking it's ok for the Po Po to run people over with cars? He didn't kill or rob anybody, for Christ sake, he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. . . . .DAMN

Are you sure the seatbelt was all there was to it? Would you run if that's all you did? I see TWO BIG NOS'. I don't agree with all of the police tactics, but I think he ran for some reason, that he didn't stop is, or, was his problem.
