Massachusetts man in fear of life, shoots killer Golden Retriever

Lower than child pimps, crack dealers, meth heads, child molesters?
That's an interesting value system.

yes, lower. people like you defend dogs. do you defend, child pimps, crack dealers, meth heads, child molesters? if so, you are even lower than a person who lets dogs run loose.
its sounds like your lack of values are in question..

Seriously.

29 CFR 780.328
§ 780.328 Meaning of livestock.
The term “livestock” includes cattle, sheep, horses, goats, and other domestic animals ordinarily raised or used on the farm. This is further discussed in § 780.120. Turkeys or domesticated fowl are considered poultry and not livestock within the meaning of this exemption.

§ 780.120 Raising of “livestock.”
The meaning of the term “livestock” as used in section 3(f) is confined to the ordinary use of the word and includes only domestic animals ordinarily raised or used on farms. That Congress did not use this term in its generic sense is supported by the specific enumeration of activities, such as the raising of fur-bearing animals, which would be included in the generic meaning of the word. The term includes the following animals, among others: Cattle (both dairy and beef cattle), sheep, swine, horses, mules, donkeys, and goats.

That's a federal rule, which I think trumps some magazine's opinion.
so the chicken is not livestock, so its ok the dog killed it. the dog is not livestock,so its ok the guy killed it.
so you must agree the guy was right in shooting the dog,so whats your argument? or are you just practicing fighting like a woman?

You found ONE definition stating chickens arnt livestock but there plenty that DO include them and i can guarantee the farmers that do the actual raising of these animals would consider them livestock.
.

I can find lots more;

A chicken is poultry, a dog is pet, for which difference there is a common and legal distinction.

I am not arguing with anyone other than to make sure that terms being as the basis for arguments are correct, and the arguments have some logical connection to each other. Some of the hyperbole here is truly outstanding.

If the only way you can deal with a charging golden retriever is to shoot at 5 times (re-read the story), then I guess that's what you have to do. We all are constrained by our personal limitations (to paraphrasing Harry Callahan).

Some of us do not enjoy being bitten. More power to you if you do. Enjoy the tetnus shot.
Tetnus shot if you're lucky, rabies shots if you're not!
I've been a dog owner most of my life (59 yrs old) and I really like dogs. But if a dog comes on my property, kills any animal that belongs to me whether livestock, poultry or pet and then acts aggressively towards a member of my family or myself it will be dealt with.

I've trained dozens of dogs, worked with hundreds, been bitten one time and that was my own fault for jumping in the middle of a dog fight.

Tetanus shot has never bother me, I have had plenty from stepping on nails or cutting myself on old farm equipment. Last one I got was for a cut on the sharp edge of deer stand. I guess when I get time, I'll go back and shoot the stand.

Chickens aren't livestock.
Seriously.

Is this the same federal government that classifies tomatoes as vegetables?
It seems to me that Uncle Sam may care more about how it can tax things and less about making logical or scientifically acurate classifications...
Wait. What was this thread about?

Sound like you've been very lucky in your interactions with dogs. Also sounds like you're a bit butthurt because this thread did not go as you envisioned. Go shoot your stand.
