My Bunker

Looks familiar. Awesome job there fellow prepper......

Thank you sir...seems like I am just scratching the surface of the need. But then I bet you can relate too ;)

Nice setup.Under ground?
3/4 underground. Split level house on a hill. 3 walls have 6-7 ft of earth along them. the garage is on the other end with exposed cynder block wall.

Nice stash , how long are the can foods like that good for ?

Whenever I buy I shot for a minimum of 2 years. ALl dates are "best by". not "good until" or "expiration date"s. The Dinty Moore meals are supposedly infinitly edible, but best by +2-3 years from purchase.

very nice. looks like you went extreme couponing lol

Man, THAT's a hobby I REALLY want to get into. Most of this was bought on sale but not cheap enough. And it's all been acquired slowly over the last year, year and a half. Next big priorities are 50 gallon water storage and aquaponic gardening. I have HTH and a "gravity filtration system" (two 5 gallon buckets far right of second pic) but storage is going to be an issue. It's a mile one way to the water and the same (UPhill) to bring it back. Not a problem as long as I have gas in the truck but after that...eeps.

so i guess on the 3rd year you just eat those and replace the stock

No. You rotate every time you eat. Bring to kitchen from stores, replenish stores when you shop. Never stop rotating for freshness.

Nice set up. Do the wire racks holding the cans automatically rotate stock when you pull from the bottom, or is it just plain shelving?

I wish. They are LIFO(Last In, First Out) racks. Nice to a point but every time I replenish an item I have to take the stock out and put newest in first. No big deal but limited capacity and they should be FIFO(First In, First Out) for best inventory rotation.

I lucked out and found a place going out of buiness that was giving away metal shelves and thats what i replaced mine with. Start that canning man and you will be set but what a great stash it puts you well ahead of the curve. Prep on

Man it'd be nice to get some REAL good shelving. Someone posted a pic once here of some they built that were FIFO style and held a HUGE amount of food. That's what I'm looking for. Thanks! As you probably know, the more you get into prepping the less prepared you actually feel. LOL! When the wife pulls a can out to cook I feel naked till I replace it(5 or six times over). ;)

We have one of these and they work well. A little more expensive than standard shelving, but the FIFO works and ours holds hundreds of cans. As you can read, you can adjust each chute to fit most standard can sizes. If we move, another rack or two is on our buy list.

I looked at them after you mentioned it. Super nice but I don't know if I could swing the $300-500 with shipping.

This:

or this:

Would probably be adequate for my nees and much cheaper. Start with a VW and work up to a HUMMV eh? ;)

Nice invetory... I sure hope you never have to evacuate to another location with that stockpile of food!

LOL! I HOPE to bug IN if it ever happens but I DO have my BoBs, BoC(bug out CAN of ammo), ready weapons, and can grab an ARK or two in a few seconds and be gone. Even if I had to bug out, hopefully I could either bug back in or return to shop my own stores under cover of darkness. Would still beat the hell out of trying to raid walmart post apocalypse.

Nice stash.

Thanks :)

Nice set-up. I really need to start doing that before we see a run on food like we have seen a run on ammo.

If nothing else lay in the Chef's banquet ARKs. Not as convenient as MRE's but 15 year storage life and 2100 calories a day per person for 30 days for only $109 +S&H. The bottom shelf of that right hand shelf is full of candles. In a pinch I can use some of them for cooking even the freeze dried stuff. So with just a bucket of food, some candles, water and a place to hunker down you could survive a month. Everything above that is icing on the cake. ;)

You know, that is a real possibility I hadn't considered... No real apocalyptic event needed to trigger that. So instead of heading up to Cherokee G&P for that new pistol, I guess it's off to Wal Mart. I wonder if you just triggered the run? They say that there is approximately 30 days worth of food on the grocers' shelves at any one time. See you there.

That is not a bad price at all. The candles are definitely a good idea. I never even considered using them for cooking.
