My first attempt at polishing

I like it!! I picked up a 1911 that's in pretty rough shape and have been thinking about polishing it up to a shine.

You and Howie inspired me. I'm going to attemp this.

what are you wanting to do on the 1911? Just the slide or the whole thing?

Probably the whole thing... I'm still debating if I want to cerekote it or leave it nice and shiny.

Howie did an amazing job polishing that 1911 to a shine. He did a bead blast as well though. I dont have access to that, but I have access to a sandblaster......

I saw that. it is very impressive. Mine will get close to that with one more pass but it tells me it wants to go with me to the range tomorrow.

That is so hard to do without a blaster.... The safety, releases, and slide grooves are the big challenges

I polished up a German derringer in 38 spl and it looked great for about 12 hours. Then it started to oxidize and return to the more normal cruddy look it had B4 I started. That high temp wheel clear coat looks promising. Let me know if U go that route and how it worked out for you.

Mostly done... After a trip to the range and a final pass I think I am satisfied would like a new set of sights though.

hey popsBwell, try using some aluminum/mag wheel polish from advanced auto with a dremel...that will REALLY make it shine, did it on my old G19 and you could see my fingerprints!

If i get it any more shiny it will look more like a light saber than a pistol
