Some of my best memories growing up were peeling chestnuts and putting them on the wood stove in a pie pan and burning your tongue from a lack of patience. I also remember digging out the spines from a bare foot that got too close to the small grove while playing. Good times! Do kids go barefoot nowadays? I'm jealous

They proberly do,don’t need any shoes if they don’t go outta house.

I pass a tree on the way to work that is loaded with green spikey balls all over it. Should they be picked now or wait for them to turn brown and fall?

It's best to let them fall but picked up immediately if possible.
I poke the opened ones on the tree with a stick to make them fall.
Check for tiny worm holes and wear good leather gloves.
Shoes optional
