Nicest bottle of Whisky or Whiskey

I know, I know, as the lyrics of an old song so aptly states:
"Younger women, faster horses, older whiskey, more money"
are the badges of success ... but if you are just a regular guy then... ?

I'm an older member here and have sampled a lot of good and bad strong drink over several decades.
Being in sales, and sales management, a lot of the cost of "entertaining" was also picked up by my employer!
That said; I'm somewhat amazed at the phenomenon of "If it costs more, it has to be better!" attitude
that marketers have instilled as a necessity-of-life into our society this past decade or two!
This (amazement) also seems to go hand-in-hand with the repeated election and re-election of nincompoops like
we have running and ruining our way of life here in this wonderful country ...!
Yes, we have "the very best politicians that money can buy" ... Is that a good thing?
I don't think so! Nor do I think that the more costly beverage is necessarily the best either!

Famous Grouse regular label is an excellent, affordable every day drink of Scotch Whiskey (Normally LT $30 per 1.5 liter)
Their Black Label is also good, but (IMHO) not worth double the price!. I drink (and prefer)
Vodkas that have been distilled at least 4-5 times ... Normally LT $16 per 1.5 liter.
Hey, it's alcohol ... Great in Martinis ... if I want to add taste, I can do so without anyone else's help!

My 2 Cents Worth ...

My parting words as we go into this season of festivities: Life is precious, be safe as well as responsible.
Drink what you like: Enjoy whatever beverage you like, but do so responsibility;
don't handle firearms or drive during or after such enjoyment!

Well stated... I grew up around a "Big-Shot" Father, so I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder when it comes to embracing the conspicuous consumption items that most people desire.

I do enjoy quality items, but I have absolutely no use for Bling items that do not deliver the quality that the price tag would indicate. Just because it is expensive and exclusive does not mean that it is high quality. There are often items that are WAY less expensive that are just as good - Those are the ones I look for.

I have a 5th of Seagrams that the label has never been broken on. It comes with the Dust and all over the years. We are talking 1962 guys.

Aged liquor gets better over time - IN THE BARREL... The warming / cooling interaction with the charred oak barrels is what does the work.
Once it is bottled it will be pretty much the same.

My buddy has turned into a huge Scotch fanatic this yr. Personally I've only got 2 bottles as I'm just wading into the waters a bit and have a bottle each of Balvenie Doublewood 12 and Balvenie Caribbean Cask 15.

Bingo! My thoughts as well. I talk to the owners of the liquor stores. I am not a expert and I ain't spending my race money on high dollar fads.Another bargain I found was Evan Williams single barrel. Cost as much as MM and pretty good with ice.

For anybody (moron) that wants to pay $550 for a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 15YO - a bottle was just listed... HOLY Crap - I could just not justify spending that much on a bottle of liquor.

I went out west for work a few months back and tried Stranahan's Colorado Whisky. I didn't have high expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. I wold recommend it if you can find it anywhere.

Had Pappy 18 three years ago. It was solid for sure, but there are some bargains out there. Four Roses (yes, not high end) Single barrel that the Decatur Package store has procured is among the best bourbon I've ever had under $100/bottle. $35, worth every cent.

I have a great bottle of Four Roses right now. My homeboy from KY came down last month and brought me a bottle of reserve.
