Exactly. That does nothing except get them to post of bunch of random bs to get the requisite post count, and worst case it makes an account look more legit by having a post count.
This is the common denominator. Post something with a price just a little too good and they’ll be flooded with PMs from guys thinking they’re getting a screaming deal. And for the love of God if they want a deposit to hold it run away.
Not one person should be able to do this alone it should take 3 as to be fair. Some peeps will always take out their anger by bad marks just to make themselves feel better AKA Abuse of Power
I hate that. I don’t understand how folks fall for the stuff.
Either way, I’ll keep reporting the bastards. It’s super easy to link them to the GB or similar ad they stole the photos from. They like using the same exact verbiage. You can literally copy their ad and paste it into Google to find where they stole from. These ***holes are lazy and it helps to weed them out. ****’em all.
Very few people in my area are active on this site. I login from foreign countries a lot of the time. I'm already registered and I have feedback so I guess it doesn't affect me.
Pretty new user here and after my first post in the classifieds where I indicated I messaged the seller, I received a PM from another user. They were posing as a friend of the seller and told me to email the seller at some gmail account. In cyber security they call this a "Man in the middle attack." I reported them and the admins booted the account and deleted the conversation. I was pretty shocked to have someone make an attempt like that right after I joined.
Here's my $0.02 based on experiences on other firearms forums like Glock Talk, Ruger Forum and Rimfire Central. I've done transactions with at least one member of both Glock Talk and the Ruger Forum with no issues FWIW.
- I can't recall what the process was when I singed up but if OT doesn't use two-factor authentication and captcha prompts to create and account and login this really needs to be in place.
- The 30 posts and 30 days seems to provide a decent balance of time and effort before someone can PM or use buy/sell. If they have to wait 30 days anyway I *think* folks would be less apt to bomb the site with garbage posts.
