I recently gained hunting access to a great spot of land. They had a few of these old 55 gallon drum converted stands on there. One was still hanging in the tree. Never seen anything like them before!

Definitely some homemade redneck rigging there. There is zero chance I would've ever got in something like that. There are new ladder stands out there I don't like lol

Been 50 years since I hunted out of one in Rockdale Co. But it's excellent when it gets really cold, you put a can of Sterno between your feet. A hunter was in one of those barrels and had his head down getting warm and a couple of kids shot him by accident.... I'm thinking maybe in 1976?

I bet without that sterno though on a real cold morning you would be slap miserable sitting on that metal!

I’ve seen folks eye bolt them beside tree 25’ in the 70s with spikes drove in the tree for steps.

Never made one out of old bed rails I take it?

No, but I have been in some made with 4x4 and 2x8 pieces of wood and extension ladders or boards nailed into the tree to climb up
