Recently got a tavor x95 and I’m trying to decide what optic to use on there. The 16” barrel let’s me get the best out of 5.56, so was thinking a 1-4/6 LPVO. The other part of me was thinking a dot because the plan is to use this as a travel gun/defense rifle and everything would be in close.

I’m conflicted. Sold some stuff to free up cash for a dot, but could also steal the 1-4 off my old 3gun rifle.

1-4 power optic with illuminated reticle. On 1 power it behaves exactly the same as a red dot, but you have the option of magnification if you need it.

If you have the opportunity, go to the range and play with a quality 1x optic (Aimpoint Micro, Eotech XDS, Trijicon MRO), and a quality LPVO. You’ll be able to see what works for YOU.

I tried the LPVO’s and I’m not a fan for me personally. At 1x, they do not work as well as a 1x Aimpoint/Eotech/Trijicon, which is where I primarily see me using the optic. Of course, they have the ability to increase the effective range of your weapon, but at a decreased usability at close range.

You have to decide what’s best for you. Some folks are willing to have a less friendly 1x to gain the increased magnification option, and that works for them.
