Pediatrician questions

Graybeard, I'm going to type this slowly.

Accidental shootings are one of the top 10 causes of accidental deaths in several age groups. Therefore they get mentioned. Fortunately as parents and citizens we're not seeing a rash of children killed or harmed by toppling TV's or knives in toasters. However the falling down stairs is covered in the talks on baby proofing a home with gates on all stairwells and we do recommend foam sticky things on all hard furniture corners. You brought those examples up so I figured I'd let you know we cover them.

I'm glad you are/were such an intelligent, observant, watch your kids like a hawk parent. We need more of those. Nowadays that's the exception and not the rule, which is a sad statement on the state of our general populace as a whole and one of the reasons we do have to go over so many of these issues with each and every parent.

I believe as strongly in personal responsibility as I do personal privacy.

Thanks for typing slowly. It helps with my sucky reading comprehension.

If you really want to protect the children, you should advise them as thoroughly as possible of all the dangers of prescription medications. Pill pushing Dr.'s are more of a danger to children in society than guns.
According to this recent study by the CDC, death from poisoning has shown an 80% increase recently.

"As prescription sales in the U.S. continue to skyrocket, so does the rate of child deaths by poisoning. According to the latest Vital Signs report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), childhood poisoning deaths increased 80 percent between 2000 and 2009, and prescription drugs accounted for 57 percent of the increase.

The only other category of accidental childhood deaths to increase was suffocation, which rose 30 percent in the same time frame. Deaths from motor vehicle accidents, fires and drowning all decreased."

Medical profession ( I typed slowly too- and btw med profession includes doctors) cause more deaths to kids than guns do annually. 1.5% for medical and .04 for firearms.

" Medical neglect accounted for 1.5 percent of
fatalities."

Are you advising all your patients of this too, or just the convenient and popular one about those awful guns?

Great graph. Most of those prescription drugs aren't prescribed to the kids but are from kids taking narcotics and benzo's they get from parents, friends, or off the street. We've had 5-6 in our community the past two years alone due to overdose of prescription meds. It's a problem our leadership here has done a lot of of good in by shutting down pill mills and aggressively prosecuting those that doctor shop to illegally obtain such drugs.

And Wow did I miss something in this Chart above, where are ALL THOSE GUN RELATED DEATHS the Dr.s are supposed to be so worried about? Like I said before, it's all Government Ordered BS, sticking their noses in where it don't Belong. Trying to incite Division between Gun owners and Sheeple. The Goverment has us by the short hairs and the Dr.s stick their fingers in our Butt, now it's their Noses in our Personal Business. What's next.

well, so far I have managed to raise 6 of mine past the age of 18 without anyone getting shot, without a doc asking about my guns. Maybe I can make it with the other 2.

Good luck brother, I'm pulling for you. Maybe a just a question about your masturbation habits from your UPS guy and you'll be able to pull through.
