Big plans tomorrow! Heading out in the morning to visit Amos’ BBQ and Biscuits and Slope’s in Cumming. If I’m not in a food coma I may get adventurous and try for a third, but we’ll see what happens.
If you’re going to Cumming, try Socks Love BBQ.

They beat Fox Brothers and a few others. The bad, since Covid, take out only???? I like it a lot better than Slopes.

You guys gave some great suggestions. I have 37 spots on my list. There’s no way I can get to them all this week, but I want to put a dent in the the list. I was hoping to get 2 today. I started with a 2.35 mile run. Why, that’s an odd number you say? Yes it is. I was hoping for 3, but the BBQ from yesterday was an anchor and I quit early.

My plan was to drive to Amos’s BBQ and Biscuits and get a biscuit then lunch about an hour later, then go to Slope’s in Cumming on the way home. I left much later than anticipated. As I was driving through Cumming I saw another BBQ sign on the left: 73F35165-7C29-4200-94F5-2B47715D3F5F.jpeg
Socks Love BBQ. So I stopped there first.

Wow! They were friendly and great customer service. I ordered pork sandwich and Mac & cheese - they don’t have stew. Everything is to-go. There are a few picnic tables on the grassy knoll just outside the restaurant. If you’re eating at one of the tables the amazingly nice staff is delivering everything boxed/bagged to you. If not, they ask what kind of vehicle and bring it to you there. I bought some of their original seasoning while there, too.
The sandwich meat is g-r-e-a-t. The meat is pulled (which I have come to prefer) as opposed to shredded. Smoky, juicy, has enough crunchy bark to addd texture. Sauce on the side (good move), and a plain potato bun (not the best but better than plain old white bread). Don’t let the picture fool you, the portion was big enough, the bun is just large.
The Mac & Cheese is fantastic. It’s made with tortiglioni pasta
, creamy, cheesy and melty, piping hot. I couldn’t stop eating it. Literally licked the lid. The sauce was great too. Perfectly balanced, not too much sweet, vinegar, spice, tomato, juuuust right all around. And, crunchy pickles!

Definitely worth the drive and I’ll be going back again, lots.

Stop #2 today, Slopes BBQ in Cumming. Plan was to his Slope’s on the way home but since I was already in town I figured why not? Slope’s was easy to find. They had a bunch of things to choose from, but again, pulled pork and stew, to-go, with extra sauce. The extra sauce was complimentary (a nice touch). And the woman taking orders was very friendly. Place seemed popular, too. Mostly full before lunch.

Their stew good. A little heavy on the cumin (I think) and a little too much meat/liquid ratio, but overall quite good. Not spicy but the black pepper came through.

The sandwich was perfectly wrapped, good size portion, with 2 dill pickles tucked onto the top (something I love from childhood: stopping at Holcomb’s BBQ on the way to UGA games, sandwiches always had pickles). The meat was freshly cooked, shredded and flavorful. They sauce the sandwich beforehand, which I don’t care for as it makes the plain white bread bun soggy very quickly). I think the sandwich would have been better if I got sauce on the side. The place has a great following and I will go back to try their ribs at some point. Actually, I’ll be in Roswell tomorrow and may try that location just for kicks.

Burnt ends are just amazing.

I’m surprised you made the rookie mistake: loaded potato? That’s taking up precious room for meat.

If you feel like a road trip...we just went to Memphis for a 2 day trip to see Graceland and the Lorraine Hotel.

We decided to eat at a favorite local BBQ place called Cozy Corner BBQ. It aad incredible. They're fam5for their sauce and Cornish Hens. The sliced pork was amazing as well!
