POSTED: September 21, 2012 3:30 a.m.

A south Forsyth energy business is holding a disaster preparedness event for the public on Saturday. Prep Fest 2012 is set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Solar Energy USA, 7565 Industrial Court, Alpharetta, GA 30004. Andrea Brown, a spokeswoman for the company, said the free event is being held in response to the Center for Disease Control’s National Preparedness Month in September. “And due to recent natural events [in other states], leaving all without power and supplies, we find a need and want to help share information on how to prepare for such things,” Brown said. She said the event will feature a range of vendors with information on topics such as emergency food and power systems, solar energy with battery backups, first aid, water reclamation and home defense. “There is no presentation or agendas,” she said. “It is just a place to come and discuss topics openly.” Solar Energy will also provide free hot dogs, chips and beverages, Brown said. In order to provide enough food, she said those interested in attending should R.S.V.P. to the office by 5 p.m. Friday. She said about 75 people have signed up so far, but she’s hoping for “a ton more.” “We want as many people as possible to come and ask questions and learn about disaster preparation for their homes and families,” she said.

I've been to one of these in TN. This is for people that don't have any experience with how to prep for disasters and it's a way to get prospective solar energy customers in. They have some good info.
