For me, the real savings has been shooting with cast bullets. My 38 special and 9mm reloads are cheaper to shoot than 22LR. That's if you don't factor time, and have access to free (scrounged) lead.

Cast bullets are a great way to save money for sure if you have free lead. The only thing that I cast are 45 auto and .50 minie balls due to time. Proper diameter boolits are key to reducing leading.
