Red dot vs shotgun

The Trijicon MRO is a solid optic, and doesn’t get enough love.

I think it is the best budget, not budget optic and I run the MRO on a lot of my crap from the Benelli to my MP5K and SBR's.

Ok, my time of buying the best optics has passed, so I get a decent priced dot and do what I need these days. I mounted an Osight C on a rail adapter, about 1/2"riser. Puts the sight about perfect. Co-witness is good, the last few months saw 300 rounds of buck, slug and #4 bird shot fired, no issues with the Beretta or the sight. Always checked zero at 50 yd plate first, stays on target. Had knee replaced last week, so will be a time before more shooting , but it'll do for now. If an issue comes up with the Osight, I'll publish it. Thanks all.

I use to buy budget optics/red dots.

Then I had a Sightmark optic fail during a match on several occasions. From the glass just falling out to the dot just shutting off.

Bought Vortex, had the throw lever stick after it hit a 2x4 hard during a match.

Had a Bushnell scope stop adjusting once.

Warranty claimed of course but those and a few more taught me it is better to buy used quality then new cheap trash.

But if it's always a range toy, then it doesn't matter as a match or life will never depend on it.

Buy once, cry once. More seriously, this is wise advice. I will always go for used over new optics if I can.

I know Holosun has a terrible rap, but I’ve loved mine and my Sig Romeo 5. My Romeo is on my home defense SBR with a dedicated suppressor. My Holosuns are on my FRT AR-15 (which I’ll be converting the FRT to my SOLGW .300BLK pistol), the SOLGW AR pistol (it moves between this and my Hellion bullpup currently), and Tavor 12GA. Two of these are what I would consider for additional home defense and the others are range use primarily, but everything I own is a range weapon regardless.

All that said, I would trust my life to the Sig Romeo and my Holosuns.

I do have Holosuns, Vortex, and a Romeo on pistols, no problems over the years. The Osight should equal the Holo's. Never know til you try. Two Eotechs on carbines also no problems.

In full disclosure, I've sent a few Eotech back for warranty work. But it was always a Delam issue and the sight technically still worked.

I've had Sig red dots fail during light range use. The buttons just fall off. In 2021, I tried to go cheap again, with Sig dots. 2 out of the 3 I bought all failed. Warranty then sold, just reminding me about used, quality.

That's when the MRO came a big part of my optic "collection ". Though I was running them since 2015/2016.
