Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten has been arrested by the FBI for allegedly stealing from the dead. Shameful.

As part of the ongoing investigation, information surfaced that "county property and/or employees may be subjected to potential harm".

Under the authority of the Georgia Constitution, the Sheriff, as the county's chief law enforcement officer who's sworn duty is to act as the "Conservator of the peace" has the right and the duty to "enforce laws enacted for the protection of the lives, persons, property, health, and morals of the people". As such, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office has temporarily assumed authority of the Richmond County Coroner's Office and personnel employed the office.

Tuten, 70, was a deputy coroner for 26 years before being elected coroner in 2004.

He has previous work experience as a EMT, an Augusta Police Department officer and department training officer, and a police chief in Warren County in the 1980s.

I have confirmed that longtime Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten is being taken into custody, reportedly with charges pending concerning thefts from the dead...

This is interesting and not the first time that this has happened in this area. Although the last time, I believe it was an assistant to the coroner (although it was a different coroner).
