Agreed, I own three of them.

If you are referring to the saddle setup there are several moving parts to it, but if done right, it is as safe as can be.
It’s a wonder some of us have survived these stands, as sketchy as they were. The worst part was backing up too close to the back of the platform and the darn thing sliding down the tree.
I never had the pleasure of hugging the tree when climbing, my Father made a hand climber/seat for mine. I used to climb 30 feet up in that thing.
My dad has pins in both his ankles do to a baker stand. Sketchy is an understatement.
The safest way to hunt elevated is saddle hunting. You use the climbing sticks to climb up and you have a platform to stand on and you're always attached to the tree.
One first tree stand dangerous too don’t think they biz anymore
I gave wrong name reference deer stand one use is a Tomcat instead bobcat it’s light plus a tree facing stand is somewhat safer than one facing out from tree. ( I only gun hunt ) it’s not Archery stand. ( To each their own reference portable deer stands)
I always felt safest in my gun slinger but there's also on called Cadillac that is not bad. Both face the tree so bow hunting would be a challenge.
