School me on moving/furniture storage

Make sure the furniture is worth more than the storage fees. Storage ain't cheap.

I pack my own stuff. Paid packers are too busy worrying about where their next meth hit is coming from.

Hire a truck & drive it yourself if you can fit it all in the cargo bay. I hire local lumpers to load and then unload at my destination. Moving blankets are dirt cheap compared to repairing good quality furniture.

If you move your furniture into storage for any length of time (especially this time of year) make sure it is climate controlled.

USAA will cover your articles in storage if you have them for renters or homeowners. Do not let the shytebirds running the storage facility "force" you to buy their ****ty insurance products.
I am a storage facility owner (a shytbird)hahahaha.
This is great advice. Climate control is a must if you have decent furniture. Try to avoid storing mattresses if possible.

NEVER buy uhaul insurance or any industry specific policy. They are self insured and written to never pay out more than $500. Use your homeowners or renters insurance, it's cheap and they will actually pay. Photo document everything as the unit is being packed and use a reputable company with good reputation.

All of the units I have to auction off (except for in the case of death) are filled with broken wallmart ****, nasty clothing, porn, weed paraphernalia and gas cans with no lids. Not worth a months fees much less the several they have already paid.

if you don't know how long or whatever you'll be storing, it may or may not be worth it. I moved Dallas TX to ATL area and we didn't know how long it would take to buy a house or exactly where we would be. Put our nice stuff in a pod and had them store it for like ~60 a month. ended up being a few grand for the transportation but only a few hundred for the storage, so it was worth it.

while we were in the short term apartment I bought good will furniture and then literally donated/threw it away after. It was cheaper than doing a real move.

Sell it all or throw it all away and buy new stuff for the new place.
Best answer! When I built my new house 15 years ago and sold the old one the furniture went with it I literally bought all new everything except pictures, personal stuff and some Nick knack ****. I’d do same again if I had too

So it looks like the hacienda is going to sell. And we don't have a new place yet, so we'll need our stuff moved out and stored.

Firearms are stored at a buddy's place.

Any recommendations, lessons learned, or businesses to avoid? It's been 22 years since we last moved and had so little stuff at the time...

Appreciate all input.

How about a heads up on the next auctions?!
