school me on watches

i like coins, guns, cars, metals, etc. but ive never thought about watches

i dont wear one (the bands always end up pulling out my arm/wrist hair lol) but have been thinking more and more about getting one or two, if for nothing else as another physical commodity that will hold value (i like being hood rich lol)

so, what should i know. how do they work or which styles there are. value? how to care for them? etc.
OMG, you finally took my advice. Price range is a good start, too.

I have about 60 NIB in safety deposit boxes you can pick from some day. Prices from $65-$2000 and basically all Swiss Made which is my preference. A lot of Invicta, SWI, Renato, Swiss International, Stuhrling, Phillippe, Nicolett (#1 of 500), Chase Drurer, etc.... I always preferred to have a lot of choices for what I am wearing, what mood I am in and what I am doing to determine how rough I might be on a watch that day. I never could spend more than maybe $2k on a dress watch but I really don't dress up that much so why do I need a $15k Rolex? I have quartz and automatics that wind with body movement.

that is whats up. so you prefer the swiss style mechanism? what is the difference between japanese and swiss? i know the swiss is generally more expensive and considered to be better made, but thats about where my knowledge ends

Also, prettier doesn't mean better. Some watches are 20k + and have a leather strap....Others with diamonds, rainbow coloring, etc, are less....So, I would find a style you like. Bigger doesn't mean more masculine either, just means you have a small ****. But you also don't want a woman's watch either...Thats my two cents,

also, what is this eco-drive?

I thought Citizen Eco-Drive was charged by light.

GOOGLE-How does Eco-Drivework? Citizen Eco-Drive technology harnesses the power of light – from any natural or artificial light source – and converts it into energy, which is stored in a permanently rechargeable solar cell.

Dam Son!!!!

Lol,

The mechanism is defined by a percentage of the internal parts used to make the watch. For example: a swiss watch must have 60% or more Swiss internal parts to be considered "Swiss Made" ....same goes for Japanese movements.

is there any difference in how they operate or is it solely reliant on where the parts were produced?

also, like cars im assuming watches have parts that are built by other firms. so does rolex make all of its parts or contracts out and assembles?

Most of my research before I bought leaned toward Swiss Made and/or Swiss Movement for quality. I have 2 Invicta watches that look just like the Rolex on your wrist but are self winding automatics and priced between $65-$90. Most people seeing it on your wrist would assume it's a Rolex so it's got the looks but at a cost that won't make you cry if you scratch it or even worse, LOSE IT. I also bought a lot of different ones because of the finish like gun metal for instance that you don't see a lot. Others I bought because of the bands. I have alligator, ostrich, leather, rubber, etc..... .
