Smith and wesson prelock error gun possible

Just called Smith and wesson. Only thing they know it's a 586 revolver with 6 inch barrel

Possibly replacement yoke?

Did smith ever do hard chrome

I would say no but anything is possible. I have a Model 36-1 that is hard chrome with target sights. The seller swore it was stainless but it isn't. I should have returned it but I like it regardless of what it is.

The more I look at it, the more that it looks like hard chrome.

I think it looks like chrome, too. Probably not from the factory, but refinished somewhere along the line.

Not in regular production guns, but it’s possible that they did a limited run. Distributors like Davidson’s and Lipsey’s will contract with companies like S&W to do a special run with special features just for them.

I know S&W did a limited run of black matte chrome finished 586’s back in the day. They called it something like Midnight Chrome.

Gun has been re finished in hard chrome more than likely it sure doesny look like stainless

Ok guys the guy I got this from asked before but maybe my question is different. So I have a smith and wesson 586-. Heres the questions its stamped 586- that's it's no number after the dash and the gun doesn't seem to ever been refinished but it's not blued. Could the gun be miss stamped and should be a 686? Any thoughts? I dont have the factory box I wish I did
