As far as I can tell it isn't. I don't see any step inside the bore, not sure if this is normally visible or not. A bullet will not fit in at the muzzle, I was told this is a simple test to check for counter bore?

I think it's at John's Mountain WMA, the range itself is called Chestnut Mountain. Been about a year since I've been up there, really nice range. Plus - $5.00 for parking all day and range use is free!

Easy but awkward way to find out is to hold it up to a light and look down the muzzle, if there is missing rifling for an inch or two its counterd

In 42 and 43 the Russians were in a hurry to produce these as fast as possible. If you have a passing interest in such things, take a close look at the receiver. The metal shows machine marks and rough finish...a hallmark of rushed combat production. Prewar models feature nice smoothly finished receivers. Many were taken from the assembly line and literally put into combat within minutes.
