The 1911s are coming, the 1911s are coming!

I bet they will be rattle traps. The Navy outfit I was with from 96-01 only got the Beretta M9 in 1996. Everyone else got the M9 in 1985. When I was in A School I went to TIF (Tactical Infantry Familiarization). We went to the armory and checked out 3 firearms to fondle in class. M16A2E3, Mossberg 12ga. and a 1911A1 that looked like it had just left the factory - Bakelite grips, perfect parkerizing and tight. I was stunned.

When I got to Battalion shortly after that I had to go to the armory to get my weapon issued and get my weapons/rack card. There was a case of 1911s and 1911 mags on the floor. Headed to Crane Ind. to be cut up. The Berettas had come in right when I got to Battalion........

I originally posted this in June:

"I took these photos at a local LE agency that was recently notified to send their Government 1911a1s to Anniston.

The good news is that means that the CMP will, hopefully, soon be selling 1911s.

The bad news for those wanting a mint condition Singer or Union Switch and Signal: they've probably ALL been parkerized.

This local constabulary had several Colts, two Remington Rands, and this US&S. Several of the Colts were mix-masters: 1911 slides on 1911a1 frames, with a various mix of hammers, slide stops, safeties, etc. None of the 1911s had double-diamond grips.

I offered to make one 1918 vintage Colt out of all the parts, but was told it probably wouldn't matter once they all got to Anniston.
