In Missouri visiting family this week and thought for sure I’d find something different than in metro ATL. Same same and no Wellers at all. Boo!
This week, to celebrate Freedom, I purchased two bourbons.
Wiseman's Kentucky Owl 1916 Confiscated (98%) Straight
and
Henry McKenna's Bottled in Bond 10 year.
The Owl was $120 (over priced vs. the internet), while the McKenna was only $40 (lower than the average internet price).
First and second tastings concur: the McKenna is way smoother. The Kentucky Owl is sharp, harsh, and just average tasting. The McKenna 10 is smooth, has a great mouth feel, and taste much better.
Next time I'll but 3 bottles of McKenna.
YMMMV. God Bless
There are some very good bottles of McKenna. The problem is they are single barrels, they don't curate enough and there are bad barrels out there. I'm like 50/50 if McKenna is good or not. I quit buying it after a couple not good bottles.McKenna shud be allocated the way it drinks. It’s really hard to beat the 10yr BIB McKenna.
It’s a great pour for the price point.
What did they charge for the Weller Full?

I've been stuck on the double rye they make, it's damn good.View attachment 7916897
Picked this up in Charleston while I was working up there for a week. Haven't tried anything else from High West, but this sounded interesting.
First of all, liquor selection in general in Charleston was pretty poor, but that's the first time I've seen liquor stores that close at 7pm. Didn't realize until that trip that S.C. is an ABC state with ridiculous ABC rules. Guess I've taken for granted how good we have it here in that regard.
As for this particular bottle, interesting is the best adjective I can come up with. Can't really figure out the taste. It's good, but a little weird. Probably wouldn't buy it again, but not too disappointed with it either.
