Another proposed change is legalizing gun carry in government buildings where there are no security checkpoints. Weapons would still be prohibited at courthouses and other places where people are screened before entering.

Jasperse said the bill contains numerous smaller changes to existing law, and he hopes those tweaks will make gun carry for law-abiding citizens easier. He said he heard ears-full from would-be voters when he was campaigning and hopes this bill addresses some of their concerns.

“This is the No. 1 question that was asked: ‘How do you feel about the Second Amendment? What are you going to do to protect our Second Amendment rights?’” Jasperse said. “So I’m just listening to people and working for what I have been asked by many, many, many people to work on.”

Rick is my rep, I have reviewed the bill and it is an omnibus bill that reaches far and wide in scope. The house session starts at 11:00, when it posts with a number I'll start a new thread.

From who I've spoken to, this is going to get buried in committees. At least now with campus carry gone the over powerful board of regents, who have the exclusive right to no longer have to follow lobbying rules after the passage of ethics reform, won't fight it too hard. If there is no major pressure on the senate to vote for this it WILL die. This is a fast session and senators don't want to have to vote against this before an election, but they also don't want to ruin other relationships by voting for it. If you guys want to end the streak of no progun bills being passed for the last 3 years you will have to contact your representatives.

I know GCO likes to meet in person, but if they could set up some easy to use email sending programs so people could flood inboxes it would do a lot of good.

Dalton State College senior Russell Smith, a history major from Calhoun, said he feels better knowing guns - outside of the hands of police - will remain banned from campus. “We do have public safety officers on campus that do carry guns, and it’s their job to protect us,” he said.


This is the mentality that is doing the most damage in the 2A debate.

But the Georgia General Assembly seems poised to make the right choice on this matter. State Sen. Rick Jasperse, R-Jasper, says he plans to introduce a bill that would remove a state ban on carrying firearms into bars and churches.

State Rep. John Meadows, R-Calhoun, chairman of the powerful House Rules Committee, says he backs that bill. Both men represent parts of Murray County.

I thought it was SB188? Here is what I sent:
Senator Gooch,

I am writing to you today to express concern about a part of SB188. The part that I am concerned about is the wording that allows municipalities to supersede State law and pass ordinances and resolutions to prohibit carry of weapons. I am in agreement with expanding carry of weapons to all places but the ones indicated in the bill. I think a common misconception is that police have a duty to protect us, as you know this is not the case. Limiting the people’s God given right to protect themselves is against natural law, as well as against what the founders wanted for the nation. I do think that this bill is a good start I would just like to see the removal of allowing municipalities to pass ordinances and resolutions to limit the people’s rights. Thank you for taking time to read this. I will pray for you and the other lawmakers for wisdom and guidance.

Well last year the number of one of the bills was SB101 and one was HB512. It appears those are not going to move(SB101 is dead as far as the house is concerned), although the senate could act on the HB, but I doubt it.

I do not know the new bill's number yet.
