Turned in my notice today.

I worked for Sylvania for 12 years, fresh out of high school. They got bought and sold a few times. They eventually sold our building where the 5th runway at Hartsfield now sits, and moved to Kentucky.

I've been at my current employer for 14 years. I won't say the name of the company, they are particular about being mentioned on the web, so I respect their wishes.

In both places, I performed general warehouse duties. Nothing glamorous, but I enjoy working and feeling a part of something. However, our management team is very young, and long term, older folks are kinda viewed as an expense. Vacation time, salary, etc. The game has changed, and I'm not too sure I want to play anymore.

When you know it's time to go, it's time to go. I manage marinas. I needed to give my company plenty of time to get someone in before the season hit, so I couldn't delay telling them any longer. It wouldn't have been fair and I'm not trying to burn a bridge. The company has been good to me, I'm just ready to move on.
Giving them time is always the respectful thing to do.

I hope everything turns out good for you. I'd just hate to see you not be able to find work later on. My wife started hating her job too and it took her a while to find a new one. She stuck it out though.

If a person has been searching for a job in a single field for 2-3 years obviously they are not the right person for the job. May be time they explore other options. Sometimes you have to take a step backwards before you can take a step forward.

OTOH- Many people, esp. "professionals" have so much time, money, and identity invested in their chosen profession that it's hard/painful to give it up. Despite the cheerleading of the MSM, many industries have yet to recover to the levels of pre-crash. Hell Wall Street, where most of the money has been poured the last 10 yrs, has just now gotten to the level it was in '07.

I am at 31 years also half my life, almost, and plan to retire this year possibly, spend lots of quality time on the range & reloading. That is as long as Nobama takes care of my old ass.
