Unwelcomed Suprise at Adventure Outdoors

Bought many guns at AO. 3% charge is posted everywhere and in the paperwork. If you pay cash and partial CC, only the amount you put on the card is subject to the charge. I only buy when they have sales on something I want and the price is hard to beat even if you do add 3%. The only time I had a hard time getting out was during the election when there were 1500 people there buying ARs and such. Pick and choose the staff as some are far more knowledgeable than others. Customer service has always been good and never had a problem with anyone being rude or anything like that. Taken advantage of a couple free advanced reloading classes and found them to be very informative, not to mention a bag of free swag. I've never understood all the hatred for AO, I mean at least they are not DICK'S!!!!

Lol, no, they just upcharge you the 3% to begin with. Hey, if you don't like the option of saving 3% by having the cash on you, don't use it....just don't ruin it for everyone else willing to hand them folding money.
Cabela's, Bass Pro Shop, Academy, Cherokee Gun & Pawn and Kudzu Tactical don't charge a fee for using cards. Take your money elsewhere.

Next time travel a little further north and hit Cherokee Gun & Pawn. You'll be glad you did.

A lot of gas stations went to the "cash discount" back when gas prices first sky rocketed a few years back. I quit buying gas at those stations, I suspect others did also. I have noticed many of those stations have abandoned that policy. I think they finally realized their best customers are the credit card users. They fill up their car, whereas the cash users usually only put in a few dollars at a time. Note, I said usually, I know there are exceptions to this rule. A customer that fills up their car and pays at the pump will ultimately make them more money than having to pay someone to collect the money. I think they finally realized the policy was hurting their business.

I have seen many vendors at gun shows that charge the credit card fee. However, most local stores do not charge it. I imagine they sell a lot of guns because folks can use their credit card instead of having cash and not charging is worth the risk to make a sell

I will make it a point if I ever go to AO for a sale, to take cash.

Funny. Us Americans to have become all too spoiled. Some feel that a business just HAS to accept credit cards with no extra charge, completely dismissing the fact that its an added expense that businesses absorb on your behalf. If you don’t like, don’t shop there. You have options.

That’s not all that uncommon, merchants (small businesses) have tp pay processing fees to the card companies so they pass it on to the customer.
They are the only "small" business i have seen do it

Gas stations even waive the % if you spend more than 5 bucks

I have never been there before, but I have read countless posts about them and have never read a good review.
I kinda want to go there myself just to see how ridiculous that place is.
I know during the Obama scare years, I walked in to a few gun stores and walked back out after being talked to like an a-hole.
One that comes to mind is Franklin's in Athens. I walked in for the first time and asked to look at a gun and the clerk looked at me with a straight face and said "no". I laughed and said "Are you serious?" and he said "yes"
I turned around and never returned.
Vote with your feet.

Not sure what folks are upset about. It's not a 3% 'fee', it's a 3% cash discount. And BTW, a personal check is 'considered cash' there, since I guess there are no processing fees associated with them.

And when you fill out your 4473 there is a second form that you have to check and sign that says the price is the 'cash' price and that they will add 3% for credit. And I also believe there signs to that effect posted around the place, but I'm not sure on that.

As a few folks have mentioned, in stores without this policy you are paying for that fee no matter what you use to pay with. It's also really common to see a CC fee tacked on. Back when I used to have an Amex it was bumped up to 5% sometimes.

I'm not sure what AO is charging for the PC Carbine (the PC9 was the old 90's version), but 3% would be like $12. Is that really a deal breaker? If money is that tight you probably shouldn't be making impulse purchases of guns in the first place.
Its not a discount if they list the sell price as cash price

Its a 3% fee

If it was a discount, then when you paid cash at register they would lower price by 3%

I abandoned AO years ago. I went with another member here to buy a pistol, and 3.5 hours and a ton of BS later we were out the door (they were NOT busy). The next afternoon they call him and tell him he had to come back in the next day before 5 and refile a 4473 because they couldn't read their own handwriting. He told them he didn't have time the next day and it would be the upcoming weekend before he could get back, it's about an hour drive for us to get there. They told him if he didn't come in the next day before 5, they were going to report the gun stolen!
