As my thread starter says...There are a ton of used, beat up, ACOGs on ebay that people get ahold of. Does the military sell these off eventually? Are they "hot"? or what? much cheaper than retail obviously....

My understanding is the military does not let these go to the general public. Too many fakes and hot DOD ACOGs out there to risk buying one on EBay. No thank you.

Thats what I figured...You can clearly tell most of them are GI issue, or true ACOGs. And for the price they are selling for, it seems way too goo to be true for me

I've had the same thoughts on AR mags. I guess that'd be less severe than an ACOG but I've decided not to buy some on a couple of occasions because it was obvious.

I agree, this isn't just limited to ACOGs, but I have seen surefires, mags (I think USGI mags have a tan follower?) anything you can think of. I have heard from several people on deployment as soon as they got stateside they snatched any accessory off the service rifle they could. Does the gov have a way of marking etc service weapon items? I know a while back ACOGs had biblical verses on the side

There was one guy that had like 11 matech BUS...The nice ones, wtf? I would not want to get caught selling and buying them, even if the price is tempting

The Army does a monthly verification of all "High Value/Pilferable" equipment while deployed. Verification of Serial # is most common method.

Trijicon takes military theft very seriously. Just call the 1-800 number and tell them you have a reflex or ACOG that you want inspected or needs service. The first thing you get is a spill about them checking the serial number and if it was a military service only product, that they do press charges.
