VFW or American Legion?

considering joining one or the other and right now weighting the benefits for each of them.

Legion, primarily because I'm a legacy. Grandfather was WWI vet and a life member.

Both have benefits, depends on what you are looking for

If you can find an active post either can be good, mine is primarily manned by Civil War veterans.

The Legion is the oldest veterans service organization (over 100 years old) and has a lot of good programs for vets and their families. I'm not as familiar with the VFW but a lot of vets belong to both.

Depends on weather you are looking for programs and assistance
Or fellowship and comradery

VFW is for the veterans of FOREIGN wars. American Legion and Amvets is for any veteran. They are all good. There is also DAV, of which I`m not familiar.

I donated blood at the drive held on July 4th at the American Legion in Jonesboro and it was like walking back through time- the bar smelled like cigarettes and stale beer...
I'm not sure I could take all that smoke for long.
